Public Health England and Bath & NE Somerset Council have issued some really helpful guidance on avoiding and checking for ticks. There are leaflets aimed at adults and children – you can download them below.
Being active in the countryside is overwhelmingly good for your health, but it’s always worth taking sensible precautions.
- Know what ticks look like, where they can be found, and practise prevention behaviours to help avoid tick bites
- Check your clothes and body regularly for ticks when outdoors and when you return home
- Remove ticks as soon as possible with tweezers or a tick removal tool. Once removed apply antiseptic to the bite area and keep an eye on it for any changes.
